The Cadiz Cathedral

We had some time to burn so we headed over to Cadiz which is across the bay from Rota. It claims to be the oldest city in the Iberian peninsula and possibly the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe (about 3000 years). It has two parts, the new and the old districts, and you can tell when you cross between the two. We had a leisurely stroll through the old city walking along the narrow streets looking in the large variety of shops. Of course like any good town in Europe it has a large old cathedral or two. The main one is the Cadiz Cathedral; the original one was finished in 1260 AD, but burned down in 1596, the present cathedral was completed in 1776 and is pictured with Kristi above.

Paco from www.Pacostravels.com told us about a great Tapas bar in Cadiz. After we finished wandering around we headed out to find this bastion of deliciousness. We were not disappointed in the least. It is called the Bahia Bar and is right off the main square near the pier. We asked to see a menu the owner just figured it would be easier to pull us back into the kitchen to see what he had cooking. With my broken Spanish, we made our order and found a table outside and waited to be served. It was well worth the wait and we recommend this place to anyone taking a trip to Cadiz. It has the best tapas in Cadiz, for sure (at least the ones we tried were the best) !!
