Outside the Old Building

A trip to Rome to do some site seeing is far from complete without a trip to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. I always like walking out of the Subway (Metro) station and seeing it directly in front of you. It is quite a site to behold. The estimate is that over 3 million animals and 1 Million people were killed in the games held at the Colosseum. It had a pretty solid run for about 500 years. It does not help that I have seen the movie Gladiator either, Russel Crowe's character never existed, but Proximo, the old Gladiator was one of the Greats and started his own gladiator school after he retired from the Arena. Lots of interesting history in this place I am sure. You can also imagine that they had a huge cloth cover that went over the Colosseum to form a roof to keep the sun and rain out.
We also got to see the Spanish steps and some of the Roman Forum, you used to be able to walk through for free but now it costs money of course. We got there a little late to see it!! Also, pay to have a guided tour, you learn a lot more and it is worth the money, makes the history come alive.
