Some similar works made of marble
Actually it's Michelangelo who most impressed us with his stunning carvings out of huge blocks of marble. We visited the Accademia Gallery in Florence for a must see view of the statue of David. I have to admit, it was so much greater than I'd expected. I never knew he had the slingshot in his hand or that Michelangelo had proportioned him so that when you are looking up at the 17 foot statue everything looks proportional. It truly was amazing. Unfortunately, we were not able to sneak any pictures, nor did we wanna be "that guy" getting yelled at for snapping photos while we pretended not to understand the signs prohibiting it!
