The woman at the counter had to verify three times

that this was the car we wanted. She almost insisted that

we go check it out in detail before we signed the bill. I know

we're big people, but C'mon!!!

We finally made it to Rota Spain, arriving at 2 am local time. After we landed we were told we had to get our passports stamped out in town within the next 72 hours. Shouldn't have been a problem, so we headed over to the BOQ (military hotel) and got a room and had to walk 1/3 of a mile to our room dragging our bags, we were both a little grumpy at this point. We got to the room and settled in and went to sleep for a couple of hours. We then headed over to the MWR to use the computers and to start booking a car and hotels for the next couple of days. Well that took much longer than we expected. After several hours of research and trying to call rental car companies and using my broken Spanish we ended up getting a rental car from the Navy Exchange. A quick travel note, only Avis and Hertz primarily rent cars that you can take to other countries in Europe. Most places charge you extra to take them to Italy, surprise surprise!! So renting through the Navy Exchange was the easiest thing and the rate was not bad...$622 for a month rental. To describe the car it is a Chevy Matiz, or a steel coffin with a weed eater motor and tires smaller than some bikes, but it does beat walking that is for sure.....Next Stop... Spanish Food.. YUMMY!!!!
