So one of the benefits of living in South Texas is being 3.5 hours from Mexico. Going on mission trips doesn't require any of the dreaded fundraising or a long day of traveling. We recently took a team of 10 people down to Matamoros, Mexico to work at an orphanage. Our job was to frame a dormitory for the kids attending Bible Institute down there. Needless to say, we were all stretched (physically mostly), but had a great time and now have some mad framing skills.

It was one of the highlights of my time down here so far. Josh was leading Lifegroup last night and mentioned that some of the greatest times he's had in his life have been while serving others. It really struck a cord with me because I can honestly say the same thing. Some of the fondest memories I have are while on the mission field, working side by side with like-minded people and "helping" others. Which we all know is more "helping" ourselves because we feel more blessed from the experience than they were. It was funny, we hadn't had much time to spend with the kids at all because we were slaves to the hammer and nails while there, but I still welled up with tears when hugging them goodbye. It still just amazes me that we have brothers and sisters in various countries who love God and know Him in the same way we do. It's a bond you could not have by any other means.
